Gosling Pond Bed & Breakfast Supports Community Supported Agriculture

Gosling Pond supports CSA. The Catskills have a rich history of Farming which is an essential part of our local economy. When you buy a Farm Share from a Local Farmer you help a Farmer stay in business and you get great value & great food from June - November!
Gosling Pond has a CSA Farm Share with "Willow Wisp Organic Farm".

Greg Swartz has been farming in the Upper Delaware River Valley for ten years. After several years as an apprentice on local farms (including Wild Roots Farm, Apple Pond Farm, and Gorzynski Ornery Farm), he took a break from full time farming to become the Executive Director of the Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York (NOFA-NY). He worked with NOFA-NY until 2009.

Located in the Upper Delaware River Valley, Greg & Tannis grow a diverse mix of vegetables, herbs, and cut flowers on 12 acres. Tended with care their valley bottom soil grows delicious and nutrient-dense produce. As farmers, they take the long view that while growing food, we should always be improving our soil, increasing the farm’s biodiversity, and contributing to our community. They do this by using cover crops, crop rotation, and creating insect and wildlife habitat. Willow Wisp uses no pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic fertilizers and we are Certified Organic by NOFA-NY Certified Organic, LLC. Tannis Kowalchuk is the Artistic Director of NACL Theatre in Highland Lake, NY. She plays a role in all parts of the Farm, but in particular, she is the Maestra of the Flowers!

Over the last 20 years, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. Here are the basics: a farmer offers a certain number of "shares" to the public. Typically the share consists of a box of vegetables, but other farm products may be included. Interested consumers purchase a share or a "subscription" and in return receive a box of seasonal produce each week throughout the farming season.

This arrangement creates several rewards for both the farmer and the consumer.

Advantages for farmers:
Get to spend time marketing the food early in the year, before their 16 hour days in the field begin. Receive payment early in the season, which helps with the farm's cash flow. Have an opportunity to get to know the people who eat the food they grow.

Advantages for consumers:
Eat ultra-fresh food, with all the flavor and vitamin benefits. Get exposed to new vegetables and new ways of cooking. Usually get to visit the farm at least once a season. Find that kids typically favor food from "their" farm – even veggies they've never been known to eat. Develop a relationship with the farmer who grows their food and learn more about how food is grown.
